House With No Name

The House with No Name is located in Hampshire and is one of the first schemes to be consented since the South Downs National Park was established. The house replaces an existing 1970’s farmhouse building and is approximately 2000 square metres in area.
The building has been constructed using a SIPS system. Larch panels are prefabricated in Bavaria before transportation to the UK. Each building is erected and watertight within 5 days of the panels being delivered to site.
The project seeks to achieve a Code Level 5 for Sustainable Homes by utilising renewable energy in the form of a ground source heat pump and the extensive use of photovoltaics.
A closed courtyard which includes guest accommodation and a natural swimming pool, is inward looking. Beyond the courtyard a new house sits within a tree belt – and is seen to be ‘of the woods’, clad in vertical timber slats with green roofs.
The architect and engineer was Arup Associates with Hal Currey as Project Director and Clark Hill as Project Architect.
