Murray Mews is a new build house in North London that seeks to allow the expansion and contraction of the family by providing flexible bedroom, play and study spaces. The house centres around a large open plan living/dining and kitchen space, with a double height area overlooked by a play deck above. A central blockwork shaft creates a staggered void, enabling light to pass through the core of the house, visually connecting the 3 storeys.
The house is opened out to the rear through sliding glass doors and windows resulting in light filled accommodation and the illusion of greater space. Glazed areas are large but winter energy losses are reduced by the use of treated glass.
High-level terraces combined with a small garden add to a sense of space and encourage outdoor living.
The zinc clad steel frame minimised wet trades on site, which in turn led to a reduced construction time.
