Linking High Street to River Basin

Running down the sloping centre of the site are a pair of narrow Victorian warehouses. Keeping these and maintaining the lanes either side establishes a main north-south route linking High Street to the river at the heart of the masterplan.

The Bradbury Mews warehouses are the last surviving example of the structures that ran north south from Brentford High Street to the waterside.

The Victorian brick warehouses or ‘Long Buildings’ replaced simple wooden structures that housed the lightermen, fishermen and craftspeople that relied on the river for their livelihoods.

The refurbishment of the two disused warehouses includes a link building that provides backof-house space for a new delicatessen in the northern warehouse, and a restaurant use in the southern warehouse.

The Victorian brickwork has been cleaned and repointed. The original window openings have been maintained, with new openings sensitively placed to facilitate the new uses.
