A scheme for Pegasus Life (now part of Lifestory) combined 44 later-living apartments with a 98-room hotel in two linked blocks of seven and eleven storeys.
Sea views, communal facilities, a spa, library, café and rooftop gardens with belvedere could be shared by residents, hotel guests and the public in a highly social development to encourage a strong community and make efficient use of the site.
HAL’s design also generated an active relationship with the street to embed the building in the local community. Pegasus’ aim was to attract down-sizing older homeowners with a communal offer extending to social care if the need arose.
